Sacramento Self Help Housing (SSHH) in collaboration with Community Link, Project Sentinel, Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC), and the Rental Housing Association of Sacramento Valley provides telephone counseling and mediation services for Unincorporated Sacramento County, City of Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, and Citrus Heights residents in a housing crisis or dispute. The program counselors will deal directly with concerns regarding landlord-tenant disputes and help refer fair housing issues to the appropriate agency. Read more

Housing discrimination complaints can result in thousands of dollars in fines and legal fees. This free seminar will help rental owners and property managers understand fair housing laws and prevent the most common forms of rental housing discrimination. Topics include steering, occupancy standards, disability discrimination, reasonable accommodations, hostile housing environment, medical marijuana, and use of criminal history in tenant screening.

This free seminar is a public service of the following government and non-profit organizations that promote fair housing: Renters Helpline, Sacramento Self-Help Housing, Rental Housing Association, Project Sentinel, Legal Services of Northern California, HUD Fair Housing Initiative Program, County of Sacramento, City of Sacramento, City of Citrus Heights, City of Elk Grove, City of Rancho Cordova, City of West Sacramento, and Sacramento Housing & Redevelopment Agency (SHRA). WHAT IS FAIR HOUSING?

The Fair Housing Act is a federal act in the United States intended to protect the buyer or renter of a dwelling from seller or landlord discrimination. Its primary prohibition makes it unlawful to refuse to sell, rent to, or negotiate with any person because of that person's inclusion in a protected class.
